Irrigated farms in the Fort Sumner Valley water via the Pecos River with the water managed by the Fort Sumner Irrigation District. Other irrigated land throughout the county is watered via ground water wells and traditionally with circle sprinklers. 

There are approximately 7,080 irrigated acres in DeBaca County with the largest crop being alfalfa hay. Approximatley 32,600 tons of various types of hay were harvested in 2008 according to the USDA.
